1/8, .125, and 13%, Oh my!

CADIII

Congratulations! I am very excited to announce the “CORE CARD” initiative for Bradley County Elementary Schools. Walker Valley has a dedicated CADIII class that has developed and implemented training “CORE CARDS” for all 5th grade students of Bradley County.  These “CORE CARDS” are cut and packaged like playing cards, but are using math values. There will be 4 suits, like a regular deck of cards, and each suit will represent (S.T.E.M) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Science will have 8 cards that will have a value in 1/8th increments, 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, and 1. Not only the value as a fraction but the value as a decimal, .125, .250, .375, .500, .625, .750, .875, and 1.00. We are also placing  a percentage value, rounded up, so that the students can see that .375 is 38%. Technology, Engineering and Math will also be included, for a total of 32 cards. The students can play several games to gain further math knowledge. Ex. War. The CADIII students have developed the pattern, on CAD, that will be used as the box containing the cards. The CADIII students have also place influential people on the cards with a history fact or quote. An example of a Science person could be Albert Einstein or Tesla.
